It all began with...

"The natural state of motherhood is unselfishness. When you become a mother, you are no longer the center of your own universe. You relinquish that position to your children.”

- Jessica Lange

Nothing explains the change you experience when becoming a parent better than this quote. You are no longer the Sun, shining so brightly in that new pair of shoes you just bought for a weekend away with your friends. Now the needs and wants of your new little Sun shines more brightly than anything, their gravitational pull keeping you in orbit.

This change is hard. It is engulfing, introspective and challenging. It changes your perspective and suddenly you start using phrases such as “my new mum self”, “my pre-baby self” and “the old me”. Then you start to grow, and suddenly you feel like you can take on the world. Suddenly you want to make the world a better place, roar loudly and do things that feed your soul.

Motherhood’s biggest uncertainty is that you never know if you're ‘doing the right thing’. The responsibility can be overwhelming, and so we started to search, asking our own parents, friends, anyone who had taken this journey before us, what we should be doing, how we should be doing it and why?

Those who know us will know that we are forever searching for the key to motherhood, and although we may never find the answer, the journey is ever-changing us and all-encompassing. We search for the reasons our children act, say, or do a certain thing. We want to know the best way to care for them, how to fill their cups without completely evaporating ours, to grow empathy, foster resilience and encourage grit.

In searching for these answers, we began to read. We were introduced to authors who, through their words, have become our motherhood mentors. We may not have met them, but through their knowledge, experience and support, they hold our hands on our journey.

So, in the search to do something that fed our souls, here we are presenting you our motherhood mentors, may their words hold your hands on your journey, as they did ours.

Forever with you on this journey,

Dominique and Mim.
